KCRA 3, the news leader in Sacramento and a Hearst Television station, has an opening for an experienced Meteorologist. We are looking for a meteorologist who knows the science and can tell a relatable weather story. You will be an accurate forecaster, keep our viewers and employees safe, convey appropriate tone, summarize complicated information, and stay calm in all situations. You will report to the Assistant News Director.
Responsibilities
Get our viewers ready with accurate, compelling, and engaging storytelling with weather forecasts
Interpret and present high-powered radar data
Provide urgent, immediate information before and during severe weather events
Will simultaneously provide content on TV, for our radio partners, and on our digital and social platforms
Will use all the technology available to us to tell an intriguing weather story
Will be deployed in the field during weather events
Gather information and summarize facts and content for broadcast
Requirements
At least 5 years of professional forecasting experience
Professional or schooling on-air experience handling breaking news and severe weather coverage
In-depth knowledge of weather science and forecasting
Dynamic on-air presence with a conversational weather presentation
Must be able to execute open-ended live severe weather coverage on all platforms
Experience with Max Weather or other common systems
Experience with live field reporting on weather and other topics
NWA and CBM seals are a plus
Work varied shifts, including mornings and weekends
Related military experience will be considered
Salary
The estimated base salary range for this role is between $90,000 and $110,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, market demands and conditions, including geographic location where the work will be performed, and other factors permitted by law. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
