Job Description

Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Instructional Assistant Professor in Journalism position within the Department of English starting January 2025.

Wilkinson College seeks a practicing journalist with experience in professional news reporting and teaching journalism, reporting, writing, and editing. Experience on multiple platforms is preferred. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work includes analyzing journalism's role in strengthening democratic institutions. More information on the journalism program is available here: https://www.chapman.edu/wilkinson/english/index.aspx.

The successful candidate will be a journalism professional and a dynamic and innovative educator, responsible for teaching both introductory and advanced courses in civic accountability news reporting and writing. These courses will be conducted in partnership with the program’s community-based learning laboratory, Voice of OC, Orange County’s only nonprofit daily news site. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, managing internship opportunities, and engaging in appropriate service activities. Our goal is to train future journalism leaders and innovators during a period of profound transformation in the field. While a history of successful teaching is preferred, journalists with limited teaching experience but an outstanding professional background are welcome to apply.
