The Position
THE CITY is seeking a talented, versatile, mission-driven software developer.
You'll work with teams across the institution to build great public-facing site features as well as mission-critical tools that help our journalists, fundraisers, and audience specialists thrive.
We are looking for someone who has:
The City is about three years old. It’s tight-knit, fast-paced, and growing. There will be no typical days here. The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment where they can be building donation tools one day and helping code an innovative interactive story template the next.
Job descriptions like this one are wish lists that are rarely completely fulfilled, even by the successful candidate. Research shows that women are less likely than men to apply for jobs when they don't meet all the criteria. Don’t hesitate to apply even if you don’t check every box. You can be right for the job even if you’re missing a bullet point or two, and you can have important skills we haven’t thought of that would make you a compelling candidate. Even if this doesn’t end up being a match, applying puts you on our radar – and it’s free!
We are dedicated to improving our newsroom, in part by better reflecting the people of the city we cover. We are committed to diversity and building an inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds and ages, and we especially encourage members of traditionally under-represented communities to apply, including women, people of color, LGBTQ people, immigrants, veterans, people with disabilities, and those with lived experiences in the communities we cover.
The position is full-time and based in our newsroom in Manhattan. Pay will be commensurate with experience but our expected salary range is from $95,000 to $120,000.
Benefits include generous paid time off: 20 vacation days, 8 paid holidays, 2 floating paid holidays, and 8 paid sick days; medical, dental and vision insurance and a 401k plan.
