Knowable Magazine, an award-winning online publication dedicated to exploring science and research through a journalistic lens, is seeking a Full-Time Digital Production and Editorial Coordinator to publish and promote content, and to provide administrative and project support for the editorial team.

We are looking for a dynamic self-starter to take charge of the magazine’s website, newsletter and social media production. The successful candidate will also manage and develop administrative systems to support smooth operation of the editorial workflow, including preparing website usage reports, monitoring the public inbox, processing invoices and contracts, and maintaining spreadsheets.
You should have great attention to detail, some tech know-how, superb organizational skills, eagerness to learn, ability to coordinate and communicate well with a geographically distributed team, the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and meet deadlines, a commitment to excellence, a sense of humor and a passion for Knowable’s mission to translate the fruits of scholarly knowledge for a general audience.
This position will report to the Knowable Editor-in-Chief, but will work closely with all members of the Knowable team and with the web development team.
This is a remote position, but candidates must be able to work West Coast hours (generally, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm Pacific). We will consider exceptional candidates for this role who reside in CA, OR, OH, NV, NC, VA, WA, WI, CO, MA, PA, NY, HI, GA or MT.
Qualified candidates must also have:
1+ years of experience producing digital content for a newspaper, magazine or other media outlet
1+ years of experience proofreading content with careful attention to detail and grammar
1+ years of experience implementing SEO best practices in a journalism setting
1+ years of experience creating and maintaining office organizational systems
Advanced MS Word and Excel skills
Advanced HTML skills and experience with content management systems
Proficiency with Adobe Dreamweaver
Good proofreading skills
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, excellent command of the English language, the ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact and a professional demeanor
A positive, can-do attitude & ability to work effectively in a team environment, respond well to feedback and maintain long-term business relationships
A strong work ethic
The ability to analyze situations effectively and work independently
Ability to use close vision and color vision
Preferred:
Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop (for resizing images) and Premiere Pro (for creating GIFs and simple video editing), and Tableau (for creating interactives)
Experience with social media practices, with the ability to use sound judgment about use of appropriate tone and voice on social media, and how to respond to negative comments
Proficiency with Buffer, Hootsuite or other social media scheduling programs
Proficiency with Google Analytics or other usage tracking system
Working knowledge of AP Style and journalism best practices
Background in science or research
